Description
|
The historic town of Guildford lies on the River Wey and is set in beautiful
rolling countryside. Guildford has good amenities and an excellent shopping
centre. The pretty main street of Guildford is cobbled and pedestriansed
with a good selection of shops. The old ruins of the Castle, built by Henry
II, are set in gardens near to the High Street. The modern Cathedral with
its beautiful interior of pale Somerset sandstone and white Italian marble
floors lies at the top of a hill overlooking the town and the University of
Surrey

Guildford has a 10 screen cinema, 2 theatres and a Civic Centre for shows.
The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre sometimes has plays, which are later transferred
to the West End in London. There is a good mix of pubs and some nightclubs.
London is close by for further entertainment. The Spectrum Leisure Centre in
Guildford has an ice rink, bowling alley, swimming pool and gym. Ascot
racecourse is nearby for horse racing. |
