Travel London is well served by mainline trains and bus services to virtually every corner of the UK. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are less than one hour away from the city centre. Dover and other channel ferry ports are less than 2 hours away by train
Description As the UK's capital city, London is world-renowned for its cultural institutions, history, architecture, cosmopolitan life and lively atmosphere. Central London has two main areas:

(1) The West End, home to shops, museums, parks, parliament, the royal palaces, and theatreland; and 

(2) The City (known as the Square Mile), home to the Bank of England, the Stock Exchange and London's other financial services. 

The business district of the Docklands is located in East London whilst the fashionable areas including Kensington, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond, Camden and Hampstead can be found in West and North London. The historic "village" of Greenwich, home to the Royal Observatory and Greenwich Mean Time is located across the River Thames in South London.
Entertainment and Sports  London has a wealth of places to visit. There many are museums and historic buildings including Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral. London is excellent for shopping - the busy Oxford Street is the main shopping street where Selfridges can be found. Harrods and Harvey Nichols are also close by in Knightsbridge. The fashionable Covent Garden has small boutiques and a trendy street market can be found in Camden. 

London has a large number of sport centres and swimming pools. The famous Wimbledon tennis championship takes place in June. International cricket matches can be seen at the Oval, athletics at Crystal Palace, rugby at Twickenham, rowing on the River Thames, top football teams including Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham at stadiums around London
Surrounding Areas Around London, in the Home Counties of Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Middlesex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire there are a number of very pleasant villages, towns, and areas of natural beauty. These counties are commuter areas, with many people travelling daily into London for work
