If you are on a course of study lasting six months or more, you can get free health care from the National Health Service NHS) from the beginning of your stay. Your spouse and children under the age of 16 (or 19 if still at school/college) will also be entitled to NHS treatment
If you are from a country with which the UK has a reciprocal health agreement (all EEA countries and others) you will be covered even if your course is less than six months, but only if the need for your treatment arose while you were visiting Britain
To receive medical care under the NHS you will need to register with a local doctor. You will then be able to visit the doctor for free and pay a standard charge for prescription items, dental treatment, eye tests and glasses
Some people choose to take out private health insurance. The quality of care is similar in the NHS and in the private sector. However, you will have less waiting time in the private sector
