The Three Wise Men

The Three Wise Men were Kings who followed a bright star in the east that hung over Bethlehem at the time when Jesus was born and they travelled to pay homage to Jesus and marked his birth with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Three Wise Mean are known by different names around the world. In the west, they are called Caspar, Balthazar and Melchoir.

In Greece they are known as Galagat, Magalat and Sakarin.

In other countries they are simply known as the Magi - a word which is the plural form of Magus: members of an ancient Persian (Iranian) priestly caste; or a magician; or a sorcerer.
